Me being the ultimate creeper. But I found this to be so endearing watching what I imagine to be siblings walking home together in the pouring rain.

BAH!

I’ve learned so much over the past 4 weeks that it has blown my mind away.

For one, I learned how to appreciate the intricacies packed inside the brain.

(Ross property!)

At the end of the neuro module, we learned about memory and our professor shared about a patient named HM. He’s the good looking fellow in the middle (below) who was suffering from seizures and a neurosurgeon (on the left) figured that he could help stop the seizures by taking the temporal regions out of HM’s brain. This was about 50 years ago btw. Well, the seizures stopped but something worse happened. HM could never remember anything new from that point on; he couldn’t make any new memories- what they call anterograde amnesia. HM recently passed away, but because of his life and death, researchers were able to understand the role of the hippocampus (picture on top right)- both of which were removed when the temporal lobe was taken out.

Another thing that I’m starting to get used to is the never-ending cycle of studying. But it’s depressing to think how small my world has become. From school to home, to the market and back, my point A to point B spans within a mile or two. That’s just sad. So is the fact that the food I make actually tastes better than the food I eat from local restaurants. And I got into the habit of jogging every day. It’s not even for the sake of exercising, it’s for the sake of a peace of mind and my sanity. I am not made to just sit around and study. Oh no!

Also, I tend to group things together including the different phases in my life. This semester is all about patience and loving my neighbors because things aren’t going as smoothly as they did last semester. I’ve been getting annoyed by my peers left and right, and I’m realizing how what I want to do I never do, and what I hate to do, I do! I just let pride destroy all the good intentions I had in trying to be a fellow sister. I am just not that person. All I can do is talk about grace and come to God on my knees again. So ok, I am not going to be that jolly fellow radiating God’s joy with a smile in the library, but I will be a person of grace, afterall that is my name!

Oh and someone decided to steal my identity and purchase themselves a lovely subscription to an online dating site and some other thing. I actually thought that was funny, although I did have to close my bank account.

Heavenly Father
You always amaze me
Let your kingdom come
In my world and in my life
You give me the food I need
To live through the day
And forgive me as I forgive
The people that wronged me
Lead me far from temptation
Deliver me from the evil one

I look out the window
The birds are composing
Not a note is out of tune
Or out of place
I look at the meadow
And stare at the flowers
Better dressed than any girl
On her wedding day

So why do I worry?
Why do I freak out?
God knows what I need
You know what I need

Your love is
Your love is
Your love is strong

The kingdom of the heavens
Is now advancing
Invade my heart
Invade this broken town
The kingdom of the heavens
Is buried treasure
Will you sell yourself
To buy the one you’ve found?

Two things you told me
That you are strong
And you love me
Yes, you love me

Our God in heaven
Hallowed be
Thy name above all names
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us wicked sinners
Lead us far away from our vices
And deliver us from these prisons

it’s serious

you know I am not playing around when I drop my notes in the bathroom and I still use them even though I’m pretty sure my stack of papers absorbed someone’s urine.

found a slug

came back from the market and did my usual routine of washing all my greens. As I moved on to my bed of lettuce I felt this slippery mucus rubbing against my finger and I freaked out, and yes it was a slug.

and well I thought, a little vinegar should do it and I can continue eating my lettuce but gosh I can’t get the feeling out of me.

so of course I google it and found this rather hilarious comment on yahoo answers by a person who calls her/himself Jesus Porkchop:

One time I got cornered by a group of slugs in my kitchen. It was tense and scary as they slowly closed in on me. Fearing for my own safety I dove to the side and grabbed a meat cleaver. They turned and chased me but I managed to keep my wits and methodically diced them up. Then I swept them up into a jar and poured salt on their diced carcasses just in case they turned into zombie slugs.

So yeah, be careful. Slugs can sneak up on you.

A little extreme … but I am going to throw my lettuce out now. :(

david and goliath

today I learned that it’s quite possible that Goliath had suffered from bitemporal hemianopia, since he was huge and had lots of growth hormone coming from his pituitary gland, this also explains how a tumor in that region must have been compressing his optic chiasm which kept him from seeing things peripherally in his temporal vision. So interesting!
